Over the past few days I have installed a new jasper motherboard into the xbox 360 laptop and it seems to works fine. At forst I had a few problems with the hard drive, speaker and wifi. The wifi antenaes were slightly unpoklugged and the headers and pins for the hard drive had permanent black marker on the that was preventing them from conatacting properly. Xbox Laptop being repaired!

Posted by sebastian smith on Thursday, May 5, 2011, In : Blog
A long time ago when I first installed the board, I tried pulling 5v from one of the mosfets on the motherboard. The xbox gave me e65, so I just unplugged the fan, and it worked fine. Now little did I know, the mosfets that I damaged were the ones supplying power to the ram chips. No as the condition of the mosfets deterioted, I had some serious framerate issues so I decided to swap the mosfet. Being so stupid, I got a different mosfet from a xenon board and it gave too much power to the ram ...

Xbox Laptop now for sale!

Posted by sebastian smith on Saturday, March 26, 2011, In : Blog
The xbox 360 laptop is now for sale on ebay, as I am planning on making a ps3 laptop with the money from the xbox laptop. I hope it sells for at least £400 as it was a lot of work to make the laptop. If you know anyone who might be interested, please tell them about the auction! So, if the xbox laptop sells, then this blog will turn into a ps3 laptop blog, right from the start to finish of the laptop. I have already planned out the ps3 laptop, and sourced all the parts, so once the xbox lapt...

Case spray painted black and Xbox 360 working in Laptop case!

Posted by sebastian smith on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, In : Blog

Then the glossy black spray paint I had been waiting for arrived. That afternoon I spray painted the whole case, the cover, the screen sides, and the screen back glossy black. It now looks much better, rather than that old white colour. I have also flattened more capacitors on the motherboard to make it smaller. I desoldered t...

Xbox 360 motherboard slimmed down

I have flattened lot's of capacitors, taken of the ring of light plug the ethernet/usb plug and the power plug. I have also cut down the cpu heatsink and bend the gpu heatsink. I know have a xbox motherboard that is less than 3cm high but still runs cool. It was quite hard bending the coper pipe and I also put a little JB weld on at the end to reinforce it. The motherboard is nearly ready to be put in the case, all that needs doing is the hard drive connector needs removing and the case needs...

Xbox 360 cooling solution!!!

Posted by sebastian smith on Friday, December 3, 2010, In : Blog
I have decided to go with the plan below, but instead of using a small gpu heatsink for the cpu I cut the original cpu heatsink down to 3cm. After testing it by plying a dvd the temps were only 30 for the gpu and 25 for the cpu. I was surprised at how low they were when I had the stock xbox fans blowing air down onto them. Instead of these fans I will use 60x10mm fans that are half as loud, but push even more air. I will also have exhaust fans at the back. Here is a link to youtube where you ...

Cooling Problems....

Posted by sebastian smith on Thursday, December 2, 2010, In : Blog
I am considering what cooling to use in my xbox 360 laptop. I plan on getting two 60mm case fans and putting them on the top and putting three 35mm fans on the back. I dont know which way to push the air though.

  •    Should I have the big fans blowing air into the case and the 35mm fans sucking air out?
  • Or Should I have the 35mm fans blowing air into the case and the big fans sucking air out?
I am also unsure whether my modified cpu heatsink will be able to cool the CPU.

Xbox 360 motherboard fixed in place.

Posted by sebastian smith on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, In : Blog
Today I made sure all of the holes lined up and then drilled them bigger to screw in the small studs that I used earlier for the ring of light installation (I had lots of these small studs from the heatsink and didn't know a use for them before this). I then took them out after making sure everything fitted and put some JB weld in to secure them more firmly. The JB weld is now drying overnight. I also drilled 8 big holes for the big screw underneath the heatsink.
